OK, I vote -1 to both, at least for now.  It's not at all clear they're
the right solution to the problems that have been described.

[But in case the `default branch' idea _does_ get accepted, then
definitely _not_ `mainline' -- it's too long and clunky sounding.  I'd
prefer something like `main', which has basically the same meaning without
the superfluous suffix]
