GNU patch is installed, but I believe IBM's patch, wherever it's from,
comes first on PATH. As for being recent, well... from my experience,
AIX is doing well to support ASCII :-)

I wouldn't be surprised if some other proprietary Unices share this
problem. If I were to guess, I'd suspect that use of tla on proprietary
Unices is relatively rare, too.
