Not a _lot_ of progress..... but you might want to look back (on the
savannah archives) for stuff about "prism" and "merge" (regarding the
"prism merge" technique that refactors _roughly_ the same problem in a
different way.)

Also, though I don't recall what words you should look for, Stephen
Turnbull talked about implementing something along those lines in his
Xemacs interface to arch (sometime this year, as I recall -- probably
within the last six months).
