Using the phrase "most people" is always good for a flame or two from
Tom... ;-O

Anyway, I almost work from my own archive, but tend to have multiple source
directories for various random reasons [*], and that I trigger the up-to-date
check fairly often (against my own commits).

[*] Both on different hosts and on the same host; I seem to have many more
    checkouts-per-project with arch than I did with CVS.
