It's not "the same", it's an alternative.
With sync-tree, you get back the patch-log entries for your current
version. It's a way to say "the patches are not there, but do as if
they were". With --out-of-date-ok, the patch-log entries are not
added, so, "tla missing", "tla logs", ... will not give the same
result afterwards.
(correct me if I'm wrong ...)
