That is a much more reasonable message because you dropped
the "shoot the messenger" crap and because you are no longer
asserting that "doing any useful work requires downloading all
of history." So, thanks for that.
It seems to me that what you are really saying is that performance
was, in general, a barrier to adoption.
When stated in that more general way: I am certain you are correct.
Performance of what operations, though? For example, my non-scientific
impression is that if `commit' were much faster we would have had a
far better chance of winning the heart and mind of Linus. That wasn't
his only issue with Arch but I think it was the deciding one.
Anyway, if you seriously want to play again, I would suggest that we
all take a step back and think (as a group) about problem definition
before we go down rat holes of disembodied solutions ("we could
hack module X to do Y"). I'll follow up separately about that.
