ah, text!  now that the infrastructure is in place, i suppose next step
would be lexical analysis (thinking of scheme, here), and vcg renderings
and embedded histograms in the electric buffer list, clickable image
maps, and so on...  (i'll leave svg rendering to others, though. :-)
