Gnus/5.11 (Gnus v5.11) Emacs/22.0.50 (gnu/linux) |
This is version 0.13 of icalendar.el, an iCalendar implementation for
Emacs. Please see the Commentary section for instructions.
icalendar.el is part of GNU Emacs. This version has been installed in the
GNU Emacs CVS repository.
Changes since version 0.12:
- Export: Take care of `icalendar-import-format-*'. This should restore
iCalendar properties DESCRIPTION, LOCATION etc. Cyclic conversion from
iCal to diary and back should work better now.
- Export/Import: Take care of iCalendar properties CLASS, STATUS, and URL:
New variables `icalendar-import-format-class',
`icalendar-import-format-status', `icalendar-import-format-url'. Thanks
to Luca Capello.
- Renamed `icalendar-import-format-subject' to
`icalendar-import-format-summary' (and all other occurrences of
"subject"). Thanks to Luca Capello.
Enjoy!

;;; Commentary:
;; The iCalendar package aims at providing an implementation of the
;; iCalendar standard, as defined in ``RFC 2445 -- Internet Calendaring
;; and Scheduling Core Object Specification (iCalendar)''. It provides a
;; means for importing [iv]Calendar data into Emacs diary files and vice
;; versa.
;; Importing should work correctly for ``ordinary'',
;; i.e. non-recurring, events. Recurring events may not be imported
;; correctly, if they are imported at all. Exporting of diary files into
;; iCalendar files should work correctly for most diary entries. Please
;; note that icalendar.el is work in progress, so usage may evolve in
;; future.
;; To activate the package, use (require 'icalendar), or
;; (autoload 'icalendar-import-buffer "icalendar"
;; "Import iCalendar data from current buffer" t)
;; (autoload 'icalendar-import-file "icalendar"
;; "Import iCalendar data from a file" t)
;; (autoload 'icalendar-export-file "icalendar"
;; "Export diary data in a file" t)
;; (autoload 'icalendar-export-region "icalendar"
;; "Export diary data in a region" t)
;; (or use `update-directory-autoloads').
;; The command icalendar-import-buffer extracts iCalendar data from the
;; current buffer and adds it to your (default) diary file. It can be
;; used interactively, or for automatic extraction of iCalendar data; for
;; example with the VM mail reader one could use:
;; (add-hook 'vm-select-new-message-hook 'icalendar-import-buffer)
;; The command icalendar-import-file imports an iCalendar file and
;; adds the result to an Emacs diary file. For example:
;; (icalendar-import-file "/here/is/calendar.ics" "/there/goes/ical-diary")
;; The import file can be added to the diary using an #include directive.
;; See Fancy Diary Display in The Emacs Lisp Reference Manual.
;; Use icalendar-export-file to interactively export an Emacs diary.
;; (icalendar-export-file "/here/is/my-diary" "/there/goes/calendar.ics")
;; To export only a part of a diary file, mark the respective area, and
;; call icalendar-export-region. In both cases the result is appended to
;; the target file.
;; Please note:
;; - Diary entries which have a start time but no end time are assumed to
;; last for one hour when they are exported.
;; - Weekly diary entries are assumed to occur the first time in the first
;; week of the year 2000 when they are exported.
;; - Yearly diary entries are assumed to occur the first time in the year
;; 1900 when they are exported.
;;; History:
;; 0.13: (2005-10-20)
;; - Export: Take care of `icalendar-import-format-*'. This should
;; restore iCalendar properties DESCRIPTION, LOCATION etc. Cyclic
;; conversion from iCal to diary and back should work better now.
;; - Export/Import: Take care of iCalendar properties CLASS, STATUS, and
;; URL: New variables `icalendar-import-format-class',
;; `icalendar-import-format-status', `icalendar-import-format-url'.

;; `icalendar-import-format-summary' (and all other occurrences of
;; "subject"). Thanks to Luca Capello.
;; 0.12: (2005-04-09)
;; - Import: support COUNT parameter.
;; - Bugfixes: lots
;; - Removed parameter icalendar-duration-correction.
;; 0.11: (2005-03-01)
;; - Magic autoload comments added.
;; - Bugfix: Import of icalendar events with DURATION did not work.
;; 0.10: (2005-02-20)
;; - Bugfix: End-day of imported all-day events was wrong.
;; 0.09: (2005-01-15)
;; - Import: Handle recurrence exceptions (EXDATE only, EXRULE not
;; supported yet).
;; - Import: Handle start- and end-date of recurring events.
;; - Import: Do not switch to error buffer, return code signals errors.
;; - Export: Save target buffer.
;; - Bugfix: Problems with import of weekly all-day events.
;; - Put error output in buffer `*icalendar-errors*' instead of
;; ` *icalendar-errors*.
;; 0.08: (2004-11-01)
;; - Fixed problems with export of weekly events: pick correct
;; start day, make weekly events start in the year 2000.
;; - Write export-errors to buffer ` *icalendar-errors*'.
;; - Hopefully XEmacs compatible, again.
;; - Tested with GNU Emacs 21.3.50, Evolution 1.4.6, Mozilla Calendar
;; 20040912
;; 0.07: (2004-10-23)
;; - Renamed commands!
;; icalendar-extract-ical-from-buffer -> icalendar-import-buffer
;; icalendar-convert-diary-to-ical -> icalendar-export-file
;; Naming scheme: icalendar-.* = user command; icalendar--.* =
;; internal.
;; - Added icalendar-export-region.
;; - The import and export commands do not clear their target file,
;; but append their results to the target file.
;; - I18n-problems fixed -- use calendar-(month|day)-name-array.
;; - Fixed problems with export of multi-line diary entries.
;; 0.06: (2004-10-06)
;; - Bugfixes regarding icalendar-import-format-*.
;; - Fix in icalendar-convert-diary-to-ical -- thanks to Philipp Grau.
;; 0.05: (2003-06-19)
;; - New import format scheme: Replaced icalendar-import-prefix-*,
;; icalendar-import-ignored-properties, and
;; icalendar-import-separator with icalendar-import-format(-*).
;; - icalendar-import-file and icalendar-convert-diary-to-ical
;; have an extra parameter which should prevent them from
;; erasing their target files (untested!).
;; - Tested with Emacs 21.3.2
;; 0.04:
;; - Bugfix: import: double quoted param values did not work
;; - Read DURATION property when importing.
;; - Added parameter icalendar-duration-correction.
;; 0.03: (2003-05-07)
;; - Export takes care of european-calendar-style.
;; - Tested with Emacs 21.3.2 and XEmacs 21.4.12
;; 0.02:
;; - Should work in XEmacs now. Thanks to Len Trigg for the XEmacs patches!
;; - Added exporting from Emacs diary to ical.
;; - Some bugfixes, after testing with calendars from http://icalshare.com.
;; - Tested with Emacs 21.3.2 and XEmacs 21.4.12
;; 0.01: (2003-03-21)
;; - First published version. Trial version. Alpha version.
;; ======================================================================
;; To Do:
;; * Import from ical to diary:
;; + Need more properties for icalendar-import-format
;; (added all that Mozilla Calendar uses)
;; From iCal specifications (RFC2445: 4.8.1), icalendar.el lacks
;; ATTACH, CATEGORIES, COMMENT, GEO, PERCENT-COMPLETE (VTODO),
;; PRIORITY, RESOURCES) not considering date/time and time-zone
;; + check vcalendar version
;; + check (unknown) elements
;; + recurring events!
;; + works for european style calendars only! Does it?
;; + alarm
;; + exceptions in recurring events
;; + the parser is too soft
;; + error log is incomplete
;; + nice to have: #include "webcal://foo.com/some-calendar.ics"
;; + timezones, currently all times are local!
;; * Export from diary to ical
;; + diary-date, diary-float, and self-made sexp entries are not
;; understood
;; * Other things
;; + clean up all those date/time parsing functions
;; + Handle todo items?
;; + Check iso 8601 for datetime and period
;; + Which chars to (un)escape?
;;; Code:
