Are you sure the Emacs-23 used in ubuntu is the one that have
`read-key'?
ioccur work also with Emacs version that have only read-char/event.

What give (fboundp 'read-key) in this ubuntu version?

Anyway, i still unable to reproduce this on
GNU Emacs 24.0.50.2 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.18.9) of
2010-04-17 on tux.
