There are not only software companies in the world :)
For those companies actually producing physical products, and using
computers and software only as a tool, Free Software is somewhat
more attractive to cut costs and get what they really need - quite
a number of companies run their intranet, web servers and mail
servers with Free Software.
That Free Software is not used for everything is just because the
companies are stuck with some proprietary "solutions" purchased
earlier, and conversion is difficult because of the proprietaryness
of the proprietary software.
