                        Dave Aitel (Immunity, Inc.)
               PythonGTK Graphical Interface Creation, Design

Python is the fastest growing language among both experienced
programmers and novices for several reasons, one of those reasons is
the pyGTK graphical widget set toolkit (Python Gimp Tool Kit). pyGTK
offers a quick and easy way to build complex Graphical-User-Interface
driven applications that are robust and cross platform.

This month Dave Aitel will begin the meeting with a brief introduction
of the Python language suitable for both programmers and
non-programmers, and then show how easy it is to use Python and the
Glade GUI builder to create applications with pyGTK. His experience
with pyGTK stems from his companies decision to use pyGTK as the GUI
framework for their flagship product, CANVAS.

Here is an outline of the meeting:

     * What decisions went into using Python for CANVAS
     * A very brief demo of CANVAS so you can see the kinds of
       functionality pyGTK offers
     * A brief introduction to Python
     * A brief hands on demonstration of using pyGTK
     * Some discussion of advanced pyGTK topics, such as threading and
       asynchronous communications
     * A discussion of proper GUI application design

Whether you are an advanced programmer who wants to pick up new
tricks, or a novice looking for their first foray into programming,
Dave's talk will arm you with insights into how applications are
developed using Open Source tools in the real world.
