If you want to ignore the punitive raids into Mexico in 1916, (which
would make sesne, they weren't a war, simply chasing bandits beyond the
border. ) I'd say you'd have to go back to the US civil war, the most
destructive (to the US) war in our history. 

If, however, you include the caribbean as "north america", then probably
the invasion of Grenada in 1983. (although IIRC, that is considered
central america.)
