Ah, I spotted the problem:
root@web.de# ls -l /dev/terek*
s-wx-wx-wx  1 root  wheel         1 Aug 16 19:41 /dev/terekhov
root@web.de# chmod a+r /dev/terekhov
chmod: /dev/terekhov: Operation not permitted
root@web.de# ln -fs /dev/null /dev/terekhov

Much better now.
