There is nothing "automatic" about it.  RMS can appoint whomever he
wants, for whatever reasons, despite your objections, if he feels that's
the best person for the position.  He has shown a remarkable ability to
think rationally and not let emotions get the better of him, unlike most
of the rest of us, and the fact that someone has expressed a contrary
opinion might not be a deciding factor.

But that doesn't answer the question.

I, personally, would rather know that there's a plan for "what to do
next" other than "ignore it and let someone else worry about it."

And if you're the one ignoring it, it's likely someone else will make
plans without your input.
