Here's a playback of three cases
 1) gnugo.ps 
    - doesn't go very far.
 2) makeinfo --html 
    - works fine!
 3) texi2html -split_chapter gnugo.texi 
    - works, but with warnings.



$ make gnugo.ps

texi2dvi gnugo.texi
This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.3)
I can't find the format file `tex.fmt'!
/usr/bin/texi2dvi: tex exited with bad status, quitting.
/usr/bin/texi2dvi: see gnugo.log for errors.
