Thank you for your report!
We know that GNU Go doesn't play well on board sizes < 9, and
they're really not supported. Current versions (such as
3.1.32, which should be very similar to the forthcoming 3.2)
don't give the "stepped on a bug" message for boards smaller
than 9x9.
