Aha, I had a basic misunderstanding about how your code works. That was
about the meaning of "corner variations", of which I assumed that this
must be variations in the sense of joseki variations. Looking closer at
your code this can be the case, but it need not necessarily be so.
Am I right now?

I think the number of stones in a pattern is stored as char ;)
