[gnugo-devel] kombilo and pattern tuning

I'd like to make some advertisement for http://www.g0ertz.de/kombilo/,
Ulrich Goertz's GPL'ed go pattern database program.

I found it very helpful to be able to look at a couple of examples of
a pattern occuring in gnugo games while trying to tune it. Especially,
as the regression test suite usually does not give enough feedback.

I am currently using it with ~4000 gnugo NNGS games, and kombilo's can
look up all occurences of a pattern in these games typically within
2 seconds.

One feature that is lacking in kombilo compared to our database patterns
are the 'x' and 'o' elements. I've hacked up a patch to add this,
in case anyone wants to use it, the patch is attached and against
kombilo 0.5f.
(You will have to recompile kombilo to use it, in case you already have it
installed. Uli might include s.th. equivalent directly in 0.6.)
With this patch, you can add these elements by pressing the middle mouse
where you arrange the pattern. (It does have bugs, but it does work, too :-)
