Should one or both of these be removed and/or replaced by
something newer before GNU Go 3.6 is released?
current gnugo.el uses GTP so it obsoletes the January 2003 version in
terms of both bugfixes and features. a complete list of changes can be
gleaned from various entries in the NEWS and ChangeLog:
http://www.glug.org/people/ttn/software/ttn-pers-elisp/NEWS
http://www.glug.org/people/ttn/software/ttn-pers-elisp/lisp.ChangeLog
the February 2000 version does not use GTP and some people prefer its
user interface (two buffers side-by-side instead of one).
so, i would suggest skimming the NEWS to get a feel of things, then
replacing the January 2003 version if things feel ok. another approach
is to find someone to play w/ the new gnugo.el and gather feedback from
them. one data point: the gnugo.README page describes my personal
practice (in case it's not clear, i use the new gnugo.el regardless of
what is distributed w/ GNU Go proper, but testing was -- and continues
to be -- done w/ GNU Go 3.3.15; perhaps new GNU Go breaks new gnugo.el).
