I downloaded 3.7.12b out of the box, did ./configure and make.
make stopped with
gnugo.texi:186: @include `montecarlo.texi': No such file or directory.
makeinfo: Removing output file `gnugo.info' due to errors; use --force
to preserve.
make[3]: *** [gnugo.info] Error 1
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2
This is a new MacBook, with Xcode, gcc 4.2
Any other prerequisites I should install?

Does this include the recent patches for Mac OS X ?
No. It is straight out of the box 3.7.12 + missing files.
In other words, what should have been put in 3.7.12 in the
first place.
Since you asked, here is a tarball with the patches installed:
http://sporadic.stanford.edu/bump/gnugo/gnugo-3.7.12b.tar.gz
I didn't run autoconf.
The patches in this tarball are:
copyright_8.1 - bring copyright date to 2008
doc_8.2 - doc revision
gunnar_7_13.7.diff - be forgiving with replacement moves
conflicting with unconditional analysis
socket_configure_8.1 - accept --enable-socket-support even if
configure test fails
- add globals.c to mkmcpat for OS/X build
All are at: http://sporadic.stanford.edu/bump/gnugo/patches/gnugo-3.8/
And it contains the missing files.
I'd like to make a version gnugo-3.7.13 before gnugo-3.8 if
Gunnar agrees. It would be a 3.8 beta version including the
above but not the cvs changes for 3.7.13.
