Dear Andy,

You do not need to pay anything to use GNUmed.

If you are prepared to answer some questions, which sometimes require to go back and forth between a few emails with us, it may be possible to solve your problem.

======================================

A few things before we start …

1. Please know that if you end up actually using GNUmed, it will be important for you to protect the value and the safety (privacy) of your information:

(a) you will need to ensure that you regularly take adequate backups, for safekeeping

(b) you also need to ensure that no one can get access to your files, and thereby gain access to your patient information, if your systems are insecure and / or you choose to keep alive the default users, for example any-doc

2. We expect you to understand the difference between accessing the public demo (only) database, in which you should not put any real patient information, and a database under your own control, on your own machine.

To properly use GNUmed as above, depending on your technical abilities, you may need to hire someone to help you. Giving more than minor individual help is outside of our ability in the GNUmed project.

======================================

If you wish our help to retry GNUmed, please answer up to 6 questions:

1. Did you try the user id 'any-doc' and the password 'any-doc' (no quotes !!) ??

2. When you get to the GNUmed login screen -- refer to the attached screen shot -- and look to the right of "Log into", which of the following databases is selected?

… on this machine TCP/IP
… on this machine local

3. What version of the database appears in your "Log into" selection:

gnumed_v15
gnumed_v16
gnumed_v17

4. When trying to connect to the public db, have you confirmed whether you have a 'live' internet connection?

5. Beneath the GNUmed logo, what client version (version X.x.x) are you running?

6. What operating system (Windows XP, Windows 7) or Linux distribution and release (Debian 6.07 Squeeze, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin) are you using?
