Probably because of lack of coding skills/manpower.

Less functional than what you have, for your workflow, yes.

It is definitely not less than functional for other
workflows. Asserting anything else speaks of intolerance.

If "much simpler" means "simplified to the point of
non-existance" (which would be the case would we not have
what we have now) then no.

Anyone has ever been free and encouraged to build another,
much simpler or much better or much more advanced frontend.
