Very interesting read. I sort of agree with most of the
sentiments.
There is one twist with the way GNUmed (and certain other
EMRs) use templates: They do not try to fit the encounter
into a template but rather fit templates into the encounter
(into SOAP, mainly, that is). That is why I (and, in fact,
GNUmed itself) tends to call them "keyword based text
expansions".
Personally, I have got mainly one use for templates myself:
I apply them to implement parts of "clinical guidelines" so
I don't *forget* anything (Soap/sOap, mainly).
