Hi Johnny,

i just opened my iBook for you, so I can try 3dmosmon out. I will log my
experiences here... I'll be the avarage
dumb mac user in this case, so I am prolly being dramatic :)

First of all: It's a .dmg! Nice work! This makes installing so much easyer,
since Safari automagically mounts and
all. It only was named "Untitled", wich might be confusion for an average mac
user :).
Then came the actual installation. I was a little surprised that I had to
install the Frameworks thing myself. Afaik
Apple provides an standard installation thingy wich might lead the user through
this process easily. I decided
not to install any framework for now, since they were pretty large and I did
not want to waste any space on my
small hard drive.

Then I started the program. First from the console and then from the
Applications directory in the Finder. The
console reported I needed the SDL framework, but the Finder launcher (with the
host chooser and all) did not
report anything. Trying a few times (as noted in the readme in the dmg did not
help). You might want to make a
small warning or something, even if it is the message I see in the console, but
now in a dialog.

After installing SDL, I get the same from Freetype, Ogre and IL. ok..
Why the "drag all the frameworks YOU NEED to /Library/Frameworks"?. Is this
because fink contains some? I was
puzzled about that sentence, but that might be me :)

So now I run the program for the first time. It has a folder as an icon. I get
some questions to answer, but every
answer is opened in a new screen. Maybe 1 screen for this might be handy? It's
all about graphics, so makes
sense to me.
After I did this, the actual monitoring starts. It exits with saying that it
cannot execute a certain command. Wich
one it is, I cannot see in my console. Also, I see some errors in the 3d part.
Gomd, wich I ran in a screen with
-nd options, does not tell me anything either.
I rip out my sniffing too, ettercap. That one tells me 3dmosmon was executing
'get nodelist' and that gomd
responded with "[ERR] openMosix not started or node not configured".
Well, it pretty much ends here, since I run linux-2.6 and am not going back for
now to 2.4. I am way to
dependent with audio tools on 2.6 both on alsa as on the preemptive stuff.

I've been a nagging bastard in this test, but the overall impression was pretty
good! Some things like fancy icons
(I even made one),maybe an easy installer and a missing configuration screen
(wich stores the settings too
maybe. i got the same screens every time I started) will make it more fit in
the Mac OS X thought of "you don't
need to know how it works, it just does".
I will keep it on my laptop, because maybe someone else can make their cluster
available for me on the internet
(or VPN if you prefer). If not, I will install a fresh 2.4 kernel just for
testing.

cheers,

Roel "roeles" Baardman
