Not good, I think. What if I want to append a boot parameter to a
menu entry (like Linux runlevel)? Then I have to select the entry
first, not directly run it.

Now please don't suggest a command "selectentry". :-}

There's no problem which such commands, except that they are a little
too long IMHO. If there was a shortcut of some kind...

Still, no-one has told me yet why implementing a LILO menu mode is a
problem. Is it a technical problem? Then refactor your code. ;-) Is
it an ergonomical problem, does it introduce something the user does
not expect?
