That sounds like:

Confucius has several such "recursive" passages, my favorite
is in the Analects Book XIII (Zi Lu), chapter III:
> The first thing necessary is to rectify names.
> If names be not correct, language is not in accord with
> the truth...(recurse)...the people do not know how to move.
