   there are more jobs involving perl, and almost none involving scheme,
   so most schemers are forced into programming in different languages
   for a living.

i have to work w/ a whiny sycophant whose school of hard knocks consists
solely of C++, a pity. he complains about Scheme being hard! his
O(n^3) executables are 5MB (45 unstripped) and ... [insert standard C++
loathing here].

obGuile: this place of work was using guile-1.2 for a long time (before
logical ops worked w/ bignums), and only recently switched to guile-1.4.
they had coded up arbitrary-length variants for logand, logior, and
logxor, w/o contributing them back to guile. :-(

i'm hoping the user community henceforth doesn't feel so alienated...
(but on the other hand, maybe some distance is a good thing -- this same
C++ wonder wrote templated classes to wrap SCM -- gaaaaa!)

i wonder what's the guile-version-in-use distribution these days?  1.4
has been out awhile, but i hear of 1.3.4 and (as above) 1.2 sometimes.
