   * Download the beta version of the upcoming version and try to
     compile your application against it.  You should configure the
     Guile tarball using --disable-deprecated to have the full effect.

it would be nice to have a 1.5.5 release.

there is also some explanation of GH deprecation in the guile manual.
look for "transitioning to the scm interface".
