The lines above belong to the NEWS section "Changes since Guile
1.4".  Since you are using guile 1.7.0, you are using the version of guile
that is on the development branch.  In the stable branch (1.6.x) the
functions are still available (deprecated, that is).

Anyway, I have added a NEWS entry listing all definitions that have been
removed since the stable branch - at least all that I could find in the
Changelog.  However, in the NEWS section "Changes since Guile 1.4" there
is an entry "** Deprecated features have been removed."  Probably we
should be more explicit here as well.
