Some time ago, I hacked my own little version of the GnomeCanvas and
glued it to Guile.   Maybe you can get some hints from it.  It is in

    http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/gossip/gossip-ed-0.5.0.tar.gz

in the libgossipguile directory.
