i was suggesting to generate it from the live database as an XML
endpoint; because thats how the other data is exported

the distros.sql file could work too - it could be fetched from
the savannah VCS, with no changes to the server code; but it is
not guaranteed to correspond to the database

i was curious why you bothered to extract the distros SQL into
its own file; but this is an obvious use-case for that separation
- the distros.sql file would need to be well maintained though,
to avoid drifting out-of-sync with the live database; and the
client would need to do some clumsy and brittle custom parsing
