Nevermind, I work out a way around it:
NOSPLAY=YES cfexecd -F
in the init file, and then:
groups:
nosplay = ( IsDefined(NOSPLAY) )
control:
!nosplaye::
SplayTime = ( 15 )
That works fine, and I still get the mail output.
