I use the Netscape ldapsearch and that works fine for me.

I don't need most of these options because the defaults work fine with
ldap.el. I only have '(ldap-ldapsearch-args (quote ("-T"))) in my
customize statement. Option "-t" is automatically appended by
ldap.el. The usage message for ldapsearch explains these options:
-t write values to files in temp directory.

-T don't fold (wrap) long lines (default is to fold)

If nothing else helps you could modify ldap.el to strip any leading
file:///. Be sure to submit that change to the maintainer if it
solves your problem.
