So someone emailed a message with a virus to a mailing list. It's 
not even *this* mailing list (?? "bash-maintainers")

Was your post meant as a warning ? If people are stupid enough to 
execute attachments they recieve from unknown people from the 'net 
then they deserve to get infected. Virus warnings are as annoying 
and pervasive as the virii themselves.
