I don't get this.

You can use Emacs, but you can't use it to read files?  Who cares if its
RMAIL or anything else?  It seems you have a digest and you want to read
it?  Try Gnus.

M-x gnus
C-u `G f'
Follow the minibuffer to the file, hit return
type "digest"
C-space on that line.
