Re: [h-e-w] ispell and complete word

Having looked around, I couldn't find a useable words file on the web, so I
copied one from one of our local UNIX boxes and put it in /usr/dict in my
Cygwin file tree. I also replaced the symbolic link for egrep by a hard
link. Now the NTEmacs word completion facility works, which I think answers
the original question. Although the words file is 200K, egrep seems to
search it very quickly. (Incidentally, I don't think this words file is
anything to do with personal dictionaries.)

I think this word completion facility is independent of ispell per se and
requires only egrep and words. Nevertheless, I'm using the latest Cygwin
ispell, to which there is a link toward the bottom of the Cygwin home page.
But to use that link you need to remove the spurious space in it!

>From the GNU home page I found a link to Debian word lists in various
languages, but they seem to be available only in some Debian archive (.deb)
format. It says they were produced by extracting them from standard ispell
dictionaries, but not how. If anyone knows a sensible way to do that, or
can find a link to a public source of useable word files, then I think that
would be useful FAQ information.

Francis
