Actually, I think all we really need is a project to provide a
look-alike replacement for notepad.exe that is willing to display
files without CRLF (but just LF) "correctly".

My solution to the problem has been to turn off all DOSisms in
emacs and always read and write files in "unix" format. The only
windows tool I've ever found that has problems with that is notepad.
If we could just replace notepad, we could start eliminating
all the CRs in the world, and no one would notice :-).
