In general, you can enter funny characters without them having their usual
effect (as part of a search/replace string in the minibuffer, for instance)
by prefixing thing with C-q.

Carriage return is C-m
Linefeed is C-j

So to search for "abc<cr><lf>def", do C-s abcC-qC-mC-qC-jdef
