[h-e-w] OT: running compile command in specific directory

Hi all,

I have a problem running the compile command:

My sources are scattered over various directories and joined by a makefile.

When I run M-x compile it starts in the current directory of the source file
I have been editing.

How can I tell the compile command to "always" run in a specific directory?
