Which Emacs version are you using? This works for me, too, in 21.3.50,
but it doesn't in 21.3. I agree it's very nice.

Is this really not working at all on GNU/Linux? It's somehow strange
that there is something in Emacs that works better on Windows than on
GNU/Linux...
