It was some time ago now, but I think it was the following. emacsclient always 
displayed an error or warning message, but I can't remember exactly what it 
was. Once I acknowledged that it then worked. I think I reported this during 
pretest but it was not resolved (for me) and I didn't have time to investigate. 
It may be some peculiarity of my system. But since gnuclient didn't have this 
problem I just took the easy option.
