I use the same release and it does work for me, but I have had a lot
of trouble compiling Emacs with GCC 4.4.x and 4.5.x. In fact, until
very recently I had to use 3.4.5 to compile with debug enabled.

Could you try downloading a 3.X gcc from MinGW to see whether that
makes a difference?
