Thanks Niles,

Waiting for your output...

Hi Neville,

Thanks for the clarification.  Unfortunately I don't know what the specific error messages mean, or which ones are serious and which ones aren't.  When I get home I'll try to send you a copy of the output I get from the GIFT, and maybe by comparing the two we can figure out the problem.

Until then, I guess I'd still lean toward the idea that the client and server aren't communicating properly, but I'm not sure exactly what the problem might be.  I'll let you know as soon as I have an idea though.

Hi niles,

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the php client available at: [
http://viper.unige.ch/demo/php/ViperPHPInterface.tar.gz]
After starting the GIFT Server, i connect using the PHP client, i am taken
to the main interface page (meaning the logging in at least seems to work
fine) however, i see no algorithm listing. On clicking 'get random set of
images' i do see some output on the GIFT prompt output (i have attached all
this output in my previous email: giftout.txt) and the browser just keeps
waiting for images. Also, if i try to relogin after all this, it doesnt
respond (so i assume the GIFT server hung or something)

Any idea whatsoever about these issue's? Also, what could be the reason for
the message ''ERROR in generating inverted file' ?? One more point is that
some of the GIFT server output messages make me think that something went
drastically wrong while starting of the server. (stuff like Could not link
to symbol, invalid ELF header etc... ). Since you've mentioned that there
are lots of warnings and errors being printed out even when things are ok,
we could overlook those things.

Please let me know what you think..

Thanks in advance
Neville

Hi Neville,

It's been a while since I went through all this, but I did have some
similar issues when I got started.  I'd say the most important thing I
remember is that even a working installation of the GIFT still has
warnings and error messages all over the place.  This is unfortunate,
but a fact of life.

The output you sent makes me think the indexing has worked correctly
and the server has started correctly.  If that's the case, then the
problem is likely to be between your client and the GIFT server.  I
think I saw a hint in some of your output that you're using the client
from monosock.org--is that right?  In any case, maybe it would be
helpful if you describe in more detail what hangs when you try to 'get
random images'.

If you're using the monosock client, you might find it helpful to
check the client source code and the files produced by the gift
indexing.  The warning near the top of your 'last-out-message'
suggests some trouble finding the collection id's, which may be
related to a problem I had too.

best,
Niles

Hello all,

I have been trying to run GIFT on my ubuntu system since quite sometime
but
am
running into issues. I was really hoping to get some assistance from
here.

INDEXING: While indexing the files all seems to go fine until the end
where
i see
this message 'ERROR in generating inverted
fileCAcIFFileSystem::~CAcIFFileSystem() called'. I have attached out.txt
which is
the output of the gift-add-collection.pl.

This is the output on the STDERR:
File /home/scalable/.gift-add-collection could not be opened (No such
file
or
directory), so I won't use it

Has the indexing happened correctly? Can someone help me get rid of this
error? I
saw some previous threads where people got a similar output with some
extra
XML
issues (my output doesnt have XML issues...)

STARTING THE SERVER: I tried to start the GIFT server and see whether it
worked.
It did seem to start, i logged in but didnt get back a list of
algorithms.
Also,
when i clicked on get random images it just hung. I have attached the
debug
output as giftout.txt when gift started.

Also, the STDERR (when i start GIFT) has this output:

I am also attaching gift-last-in-message.mrml, gift-last-out-message.mrml
and
gift-log.mrml in case someone needs to have a look.
Does anyone have any idea where things are going wrong?

Thanks
Neville
