Until then, I guess I'd still lean toward the idea that the client and server aren't communicating properly, but I'm not sure exactly what the problem might be. I'll let you know as soon as I have an idea though.

After starting the GIFT Server, i connect using the PHP client, i am taken
to the main interface page (meaning the logging in at least seems to work
fine) however, i see no algorithm listing. On clicking 'get random set of
images' i do see some output on the GIFT prompt output (i have attached all
this output in my previous email: giftout.txt) and the browser just keeps

some of the GIFT server output messages make me think that something went

to symbol, invalid ELF header etc... ). Since you've mentioned that there
are lots of warnings and errors being printed out even when things are ok,
we could overlook those things.

It's been a while since I went through all this, but I did have some
similar issues when I got started. I'd say the most important thing I
remember is that even a working installation of the GIFT still has
warnings and error messages all over the place. This is unfortunate,
but a fact of life.
The output you sent makes me think the indexing has worked correctly
and the server has started correctly. If that's the case, then the
problem is likely to be between your client and the GIFT server. I
think I saw a hint in some of your output that you're using the client
from monosock.org--is that right? In any case, maybe it would be
helpful if you describe in more detail what hangs when you try to 'get
random images'.
If you're using the monosock client, you might find it helpful to
check the client source code and the files produced by the gift
indexing. The warning near the top of your 'last-out-message'
suggests some trouble finding the collection id's, which may be
related to a problem I had too.
