Chris,
In my experience, for some reason the Comman Loop does not
recognize the combination of the Meta key with any of the punctuation
characters that are on the same keys as the digits. The only
way to get these combinations is to use the ESC key in place of the
Meta key.
For example, M-% is bound by default to query-replace, but I
have to type ESC % in order to make it work.
This does not seem to be just a matter of using the Shift key
and the Meta key in combination, because M-{ and M-: work just fine,
and they also require both the Shift and Meta keys.
I have simply learned to live with this minor
inconvenience. If anyone has an explanation for why
things work this way, I would be interested to hear it.

Confused.
Chris
P.S. I want C-o to start query to ask for a single
Unix command.
