It's not built-in, but this should do the trick:
(defun my-delete-word (arg)
"Delete characters forward until encountering the end of a word.
With prefix argument ARG, do this that many times."
(interactive "p")
(delete-region (point) (progn (forward-word arg) (point))))
(defun my-backwards-delete-word (arg)
"Delete characters backward until encountering the end of a word.
With prefix argument ARG, do this that many times."
(interactive "p")
(my-delete-word (- arg)))
Bind to keys of your choice and have a blast.
