Here's a tip you might love.
(global-set-key (kbd "<f6>") 'new-empty-buffer)
(defun new-empty-buffer ()
"Opens a new empty buffer."
(interactive)
(let ((buf (generate-new-buffer "untitled")))
(switch-to-buffer buf)
(funcall (and initial-major-mode))
))
Put the above in your “.emacs”. Then, you can get a new scratch by
simply pressing a key. And, when you need to, press again you get a
second scratch.
