Nope. A text processor is a stand-alone program; you might call
it a "text assembler". You write up a source file full of
formatting commands embedded the running text. You can use any
editor for this, from ed to emacs. Then you feed that file to the
formatter, and it outputs nicely formatted text, with equations,
figures, and so on, in PS, PDF, HTML, or even straight text.
