What is easiest to do first ?   Could implement compilation-command and g et
that to work first.

Currently, it does not matter to me the method used as long as I remove the
necessity of having

to call the texi2pdf command on the command-line.  It would be far better if I
can just call

a simple command in emacs itself whilst I am modifying my texinfo files.

If you don't want to create a Makefile, then you could define
compilation-command in the file-local variables section of
myfile.texi.
