The GNU SASL 1.5.x branch is NOT what you want for your stable system.
It is intended for developers and experienced users.

The main new feature in this branch is support for GS2-KRB5. Tested
with GNU GSS, Heimdal, MIT Kerberos V5 on GNU/Linux and on Mac OS X.
I've blogged about GS2-KRB5 as well:

Top-level NEWS entries:

** Update gnulib files.

Library (lib/) NEWS entries:

** libgsasl: No longer require the same or newer libgcrypt it was built with.
Before libgsasl refused to work if it was used with a libgcrypt shared
library that was older than the version that libgsasl was built with.

** GS2: Fix decoding of invalid data in server. Code review fixes.

** Update gnulib files.

** API and ABI modifications.
No changes since last version.
