I was about to suggest:

The config item you will probably need to add is
CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK=y (in .config syntax)
or
("CONFIG_VIRTIO_BLK" . m) (in guix guile syntax)

but then I had a look:

it looks like this option is already properly set to "y" for all
relevant guix kernels...

Sorry, someone more familiar with this part of guix will have to chime in to
help further.
